i want Youtube memberships to be better
how has there been so little updates made to this Youtube feature?
We are coming up on the one year anniversary of me shutting down my Patreon page and making the switch to Youtube Memberships.
I had had my Patreon since 2019, starting with a whopping three patrons. It fluctuated month to month after my channel took off in 2020; but I could normally maintain a healthy 1.5k patrons each month. Patreon worked for me for years but overtime I started getting sick of them not listening to their user base, rolling out unnecessary changes, and the fact that from my end they seemed to have high turnover internally as every time I got a contact within Patreon as a creator, they seemed to be gone within the year.
I had hesitated to make the move to memberships for many reasons. Mainly money. Youtube takes 30% of memberships the same way they do ad revenue. I also did not like the idea of my membership income being just lumped into my monthly google payouts.
I am a big proponent of being platform agnostic in all aspects. If Youtube decides i shouldn’t be monetized tomorrow, I would lose both my video income and fan income in one fell swoop. These are things you have you have to think about as a full-time creator.
