the Twitter bots have evolved with the new block functionality
wow a Twitter function sucks? who would have thought?
I am recently back on Twitter after a nearly six month hiatus. I took that hiatus because they regularly roll out dumb things that make me want to leave the site this time it was their new block functionality.
(Also if you comment something like “You mean X? haha” I want you to know no one likes you.)
You see on Twitter, when you block someone it tells them you have blocked them but it no longer stops them from seeing your posts. It does prevent them from following you or engaging with your posts still.
I took a step away from Twitter because of this and only used it for video promotion. You see I have people in my life—both in real life and digitally—that I don’t want having any access to me due to safety reasons. Them being able to see my tweets despite being blocked is a problem.
But then the Indy 500 this year stressed me the ever loving fluff out and I needed to yell about it with other Indycar fans and Motorsports Threads is still developing and doesn’t hit the same way. Twitter is unfortunately where the heat is still. So I am back on Twitter casually because of my motorsport brain rot, go figure.
But upon being back on Twitter I have realized that a fixture of the site, the bots, have evolved.
Bots are a problem on pretty much every social media site now unfortunately. For some reason Twitter has an exorbitant amount of bots. Previously I would say they would only pop up in droves when you would use certain words like “hacked” or “sugar daddy”. Then you would get fifty in the replies of one post.
However now with the new block functionality they have evolved.
Now you can post anything. About KPOP Demon Hunters, Formula 1, politics, etc. it doesn’t matter. Bots have a fifty-fifty chance of showing up in your replies, but you might not even realize it. Because they show up under your posts “show additional replies”.
But it’s not because Twitter has gotten better at realizing these are spam posts. Nope.
It’s because THEY blocked YOU.
Yep. Bots new strategy is to comment on your post, then block you so it doesn’t show up in your notifications and so you can’t block them or put them in hidden replies.
I’ve clicked through a few of these. Most are bots pointing to various AI traders (I really hope I don’t need to tell you to not give them money or take trade advice from them). I usually proceed to block all mentioned parties even if I am already blocked.
Not much of a big story here I just thought it might be good to remind yall to check your muted account replies from time to time to make sure they aren’t promoting AI bitcoin accounts.
Have you seen this in your Twitter replies?
